ActiveCaptain Mobile Receives SAIL Magazine's Prestigious
2009 Pittman Innovation Award!

SAIL Magazine selects ActiveCaptain Mobile for the Freeman K. Pittman Editor's Choice award for 2009. SAIL's annual Pittman Innovation Awards recognize the most innovative products in the sailboat industry.

CASTINE, Maine, January 27, 2009 -- ActiveCaptain Mobile has been recognized in the Electronics category of SAIL Magazine's annual Freeman K. Pittman Award for product innovation. The Freeman Award acknowledges forward thinking products that enhance the safety and enjoyment of sailing. ActiveCaptain Mobile was selected by Electronics Editor, Ben Ellison, who praised ActiveCaptain Mobile and the companion website, ActiveCaptain.com, because of its ability to "capitalize on the Web's infinite capacity for peer-to-peer information sharing."

The ActiveCaptain website (www.activecaptain.com) is a wiki-style website focused on the unique needs of the boating community. The website's combination of factual data and user opinions provides an electronic guidebook with the information most needed by the boating community. Registration on the site is free. With tens of thousands of marinas, yacht clubs, fuel docks, anchorages, bridges, inlets, boat ramps, and many other data points, ActiveCaptain is the most comprehensive compilation of marine information available.

ActiveCaptain Mobile provides access to all of the information on the ActiveCaptain website on your mobile phone. In addition, it provides GPS support, navigation assistance and nautical chart display. Users can browse NOAA charts, create routes, track their location and look for anchorages, marinas or other boating data anywhere, anytime.

The Pittman Innovation Awards were instituted in 1997 to honor the late Freeman K. Pittman, long time technical editor for SAIL. Freeman, who died in 1996, was widely regarded as an expert in the field of technically advanced sailing. The award was created to honor those pursuing new directions with products bringing innovation to the mainstream. For more information on ActiveCaptain Mobile and the ActiveCaptain website go to www.activecaptain.com. The Going Mobile section offers a free trial demo of ActiveCaptain Mobile. ActiveCaptain Mobile is available starting at $19.95. Registration on the ActiveCaptain website is free.
